chris crisman advertising photography 2015

It’s a new year.

And with that we’re off to a new start. As we sit here in the studio with snow falling around us, there’s a moment of both tranquility and anticipation. We’re back in action and ready to get cracking in 2015. After a much needed pause in the action, the new adventure of 2015 is upon us and we’re already working on new assignments, planning new personal projects, looking into picturesque locations and seeking out unique and beautiful talent – all the while, making sure the every day we come to work is one where we’re having fun and doing it for the sake of making amazing images.

That is to say, it’s pretty much business as usual.

The Crisman team has a big year ahead, and as always we’ll be sharing it as we go. There’s always this blog, Chris’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts to stay up to date on the action. We’ll do our best to keep posting as this train keeps rolling – make sure you enjoy the ride.

chris crisman advertising photo website updateIt’s a big day today – we’ve updated Crismanphoto.com with a ton of new work from the past few months. We’ve been shooting all summer long from coast to coast and finally can share a handful of these new shots – including the image above, shot in the badlands of North Dakota. We’ve been from Philadelphia to Seattle, Idaho to Minneapolis, Nevada to NYC and what feels like everywhere in-between and we have the photos to prove it.

chris crisman philadelphia magazine cover amazing spaces

When we were approached by the team at Philadelphia Magazine to create and shoot the cover for their design issue, we knew there was a great opportunity on the table. The editors wanted to create a cover that distilled down the idea of interior design to it’s basics and capture the essence of a clean, beautiful interior space.

We’ve been building quite a few sets lately so our first call was to our talented set builder and prop stylist mastermind, Matthew Englebert. What started as nothing more than a few inspirational pieces of swipe and a long brainstorming session over the phone resulted in an amazing set build and a day full of doing what we do best – making beautiful pictures. As always, we have a ton more to share. Keep reading for more…

We work like crazy. As a studio manager/producer/assistant/blogger life very rarely slows down to the point where I can step back and reflect on it. When it does though, I find myself mulling over aspects of this job that might seem so inconsequential, but for me hold deeper meanings. I’ve decided to start this monthly series on the blog to take a minute and stop, reflect, and write about some of the aspects of being a studio manager that really impact me. These are my studio manager meditations.

I need to apologize. I need to apologize for being busy: too busy.

The new year started off with a bang, like a sprint off the starting block and truth be told, there just aren’t enough hours in the day for me to check off every box on my to-do list. When it comes to my responsibilities within our team, I spend a ton of time producing, coordinating, facilitating, and very generally speaking, making shit happen. When the dust settles at the end of the day and we take a breath and crack open a beer, there’s still a laundry list of tasks that vie for my attention. The honest truth is that my role and responsibility as part of this team changes every single day and I may wake up with one thought in my mind as to what needs to be accomplished only to be pulled in ten different directions to help put out ten different fires. It’s what I do and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

This January in particular has been a whirlwind. We’ve been across the country on advertising and editorial shoots, quickly checking-in at home base in Philadelphia before heading back out on the next adventure. The past few weeks have taken us from Philadelphia to Califorinia, Florida (twice), Texas, North Carolina, Mississippi, and NYC. It’s an incredible feeling to be working this hard – but there are a few drawbacks and inevitably things fall through the cracks, like this blog.

This is where I need to apologize. I’m sorry for being too busy to keep us all on track here. Ideally we like to share at least one or two posts a week – something that I’ve been missing the mark on. Moving forward, we’ll all be doing our best to post more regularly and share as much as we can. Whether it’s new personal work, advertising campaigns, editorial assignments, or just some of the randomness that we deem worthy of the internet, we’ll do our best to keep it up.

So I, and much more importantly, we – embrace the busyness. It’s fuel for the fire. All we ask is a bit of understanding for the situation: we’ll share when we can, as often as we can, and when we can’t, we’ll do our best to save those stories for next time.

In the meantime, the best way to keep up with Team Crisman is through the lens of our iPhones and via 140 characters at a time:

The blog may evolve and change as we grow, but rest assured we’re committed to everyone out there and offering up more of the projects, photos, behind the scenes, and thoughts that we encounter on the daily.

Thank you.

chris crisman 2014

2014, It’s here.

In what felt like the blink of an eye 2013 has passed and we’re looking ahead at a brand new year. Although they flew by at an unprecedented pace, the past twelve months have been very good to us and afforded us countless opportunities to explore new places, meet new people, collaborate with countless talented individuals, and share our work and insights into this wild world we’re a part of. We’ve crossed off a few states on the list, traveled to unique and stunningly beautiful places, and of course captured and shared our thoughts and experiences along the way.

To be honest, at this point – after three years of writing on the blog, we don’t really know any other way to do it. Not every assignment we take or every photo we make ends up on the internet, but I can assure you that we’re always considering and finding new ways to showcase and share the incredible variety of experiences we welcome on a day to day basis.

There’s photography, cameras and gear, retouching, studio, location, travel, tech, business, creativity, and whatever the hell else we feel like sharing. But the big questions looking ahead at 2014 are: What else? What are we missing? What can we do better? Where can we grow? What else can we share? Who else can we collaborate with?

The answers are simple; just let us know.

chris crisman monthly wrap october behind the scenes

As the year goes on, the pace just seems to keep picking up, moving faster and faster – whether we’re barreling down a desert highway in a truck headed to a remote region in southern Utah, or taking off into the clouds on a flight to our next shoot. All puns aside, October has certainly flown by, taking us from Philadelphia to Atlanta, California, NYC, Las Vegas, Arizona, Utah and many places in between. It’s only right that we recap the past 31 days and share some photos and stories from the adventures that have kept us busy the past month. Keep reading for more…
