Philadelphia Magazine: Martha Graham Cracker

1409_Martha-1Leave it to our friends over at Philadelphia Magazine to always call with a unique assignment. In the past while working with Philly Mag, we’ve shot anyone and everyone in our fine city – from mayors to titans of business, classic chefs, to the city’s movers and shakers. When the call came in last month to shoot Philadelphia’s most famous performers, Dito van Reigersberg, how could we turn it down? The Perfectly Powerful Peanut – Retouching Q&A

After releasing our blog post on creating a campaign for The Perfectly Powerful Peanut, we realized that there was still a big portion of the images and ultimately the campaign that we did not address – the retouching. In this unique scenario, we relied on the talents of the expert retoucher and digital artist Taisya Kuzmenko to combine our photography with custom botanical illustrations and work some magic to make a final image that was greater than the sum of it’s parts.

Collaborating with the creatives at LBVD, we were able to create some really amazing work – and who better to explain how it came together than the digital artist herself. Keep reading for our retouching Q&A as well as a handful of in-process shots of how this campaign came together…

The Perfectly Powerful Peanut

“Willing to work for peanuts?” – from the very first email exchanged with our new friends at Lawler Ballard Van Durand, we knew this ad campaign was going to be a good one.

Last October we hopped on a flight down to Atlanta to spend a few days in the studio shooting portraits for The National Peanut Board. The final product; a hybrid of photography, illustration, and stellar design work showcases what you can achieve when you collaborate with top tier creatives and artists. As always, we’re excited to share more than just the final product. Keep reading for the story of how this campaign came together…

Halloween may only be a day away, but one of the more interesting ways to party is to observe Dia de los Muertos, or day of the dead. As a way to celebrate and remember those who’ve passed, Dia de los Muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico and in other cultures around the world. As part of our Unforgettable San Antonio tourism campaign, we spent a day in the studio shooting these made-up marauders. We even have the behind the scenes stills & video to prove it. There are so many talented visual artists out there. Honestly it feels like every day we find something that inspires, intrigues or excites us – or better yet, something that sparks an idea for collaboration.

Way back in the summer of 2011 we were shooting an advertising project with a very special need for a particular backdrop. In finding and producing this backdrop, we were introduced to Sarah Oliphant. Since then we’ve worked with Oliphant Studios and their incredible painted backdrops as often as we can. Over the years this collaboration has produced a handful of unique beautiful photos. Keep reading to see…

Weekly Wrap-up, January 30th – February 3rd

It’s been a busy week – no other way to describe it. Looking ahead at the calendar for February, you’d think this week was a vacation in comparison. There’s a ton of exciting things ahead, from shooting in NYC, Philly, and Cleveland, to a pretty awesome opportunity in the works for all of you to possibly get your hands on some of Chris’s work. More about that to come next week.

For the past few days we’ve been shooting and planning, working around Philly to make some photos and get everything in order for the craziness ahead. In all honest, I can’t believe it’s the weekend already (but I am totally thankful that it is). Keep reading to see what else we’ve been up to lately…
