It’s always important to return home. Titusville, the small town in western Pennsylvania where oil was first discovered in America is Chris’s hometown and a constant source of inspiration for the environmental portraiture we create.

Since 2001, Chris has been making photos in his hometown – beginning with landscape work and transitioning to portraiture, Titusville was the inspiration for our award winning Steelworker series, a project which later grew to encompass the entire town and subjects from all walks of life.

The best description of Chris’s Titusville work comes straight from the artist himself (from Chris’s interview with Photographers on Photography):

The Titusville portraits are all vignettes of a bigger romantic tale I’m weaving about the place and my upbringing. Reality is what you perceive it to be and I think most people want to paint a pretty picture of their childhood. I am so fond of Titusville and think that everyone there just has so much life to them.”

Four Corners Philadelphia

We’re proud to announce our latest collaboration with Four Corners: Design from Philly Surrounds. Four Corners is an exhibition opening this Friday, October 12th at the Minima Gallery in Philadelphia. This gallery show is an “enactment” of a lived-in loft apartment containing a hand-picked selection of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania-based art and design. Curated by design writers and experts, Caroline Tiger and Royce Epstein, Four Corners will feature a 40×60” print of Lester Werner, a classic portrait from our acclaimed Steelworkers series.

Keep reading for more of Chris’s Steelworkers series and more information about the gallery show, opening this week…
