Everywhere we travel, I try and find time to make photographs. We spent a good portion of the winter this year down in Florida and the southeast, working on personal and commercial projects, creating a new body of work, and shooting some editorial assignments. I also made time to shoot a few landscape photographs, like the image above, of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Keep reading to see a few behind the scenes shots and another landscape from this winter in Florida.
It’s been quite a year. But before I get started, let me introduce myself – I’m Robert, Chris’s studio manager and full time first assistant. I worked my first freelance assisting gig for Chris exactly one year ago today, it just seems fitting to think back and say a few words.
After working freelance for Chris for a few weeks, he offered me the opportunity to come on full time. A lot of days on set, a lot of building and breaking down C-stands and octabanks, and about 20,000 miles of travel later, it’s been a busy year. Keep reading for a few more photos and some of my thoughts on the past year.
We’re featured in this month’s Advanced Photoshop Magazine. Based out of the UK, Advanced Photoshop Magazine is aimed to professional and enthusiast Photoshop users, and has featured a really talented group of creatives including Mike Campau, McFaul Studio, and I Love Dust. If you can get your hands on a copy in the states, you’ve got to check it out.
According to the magazine, issue 84 won’t hit stores in the US until July but for now check out the other pages of the article below:
Captain Ivan Castro, photographed above against a retired Army helicopter from the Vietnam War, was severely wounded during deployment in Iraq in 2006. On a mission he volunteered for to help relieve fellow soldiers, he was struck by a mortar round, sending shrapnel through his entire body – breaking an arm, damaging his shoulder, fracturing bones, collapsing both lungs, and completely damaging the sight in both his eyes. Despite being rushed to the National Naval Medical Center, doctors questioned whether he would survive.
In the fall of last year, we had the opportunity to photograph Ivan for Runner’s World Magazine. During the shoot we learned his story and had the unique opportunity to spend the day with a real American hero. Please Read More to find out the rest of Ivan’s story and what brought us to Fort Bragg North Carolina.
As promised, here are two more landscapes from our trip out to Arizona earlier this year. Can’t wait to go back and shoot some more when I get the chance.
Check back in the next few weeks for even more landscape work, the work from our trip to Hawaii should be finishing up in retouching very soon.
