Every now and then when we check the mailbox at the studio, we come across an envelope that’s covered in postage, stamped multiple times with “Airmail” in various languages and addressed with care to us. These packages are always exciting because inside they contain copies of publications that we almost never see on our shores. The best part though? They always have our photos inside.

This particular package contained a few issues of Wirtschafts Woche, a German business news magazine with both a cover and feature image from our 2012 shoot with none other than Sir Richard Branson.

For a feature story about entrepreneurs, we’d be hard-pressed to find a better businessman to put on the cover – not to mention they chose a pretty good shot in our opinion.

If you happened to miss our in-depth coverage from the shoot, make sure to take a look at Part I The Spaceport, Part II, The Features, and Part III, The Cover in the blog archive.

Last but not least to our friends in Europe, or anyone out there who speaks German – any help translating? Let us know below or @crismanphoto and /crismanphoto!

“Crisman’s photographic approach and style are the result of years of refining his process and vision, but the core values in his imagery have never changed. “I always try to make captivating, honest and noble pictures,” he says. The 24 pages of “Up” show just that, from the empty stretch of the runway meeting the horizon of the open sky, to the industrial beauty of the spacecraft that will lead into the next space era, to Sir Richard Branson looking out over the California desert where an idea he concepted nearly two decades ago is nearing its completion.” – PDN

We’ve been interviewed for PDN PhotoServe about our recent shoot with Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Galactic for Wired UK. Chris goes in-depth to discuss how the project came to be, the unique challenges we faced, and our reaction documenting this incredible endeavor. It’s definitely a worthwhile read!

Part I – the Spaceport

Part II – The Features

Part III – The Cover

Up.

That’s all you need to say. Last November, we took on a project with Wired UK magazine to photograph Richard Branson’s latest venture in attempting to conquer the final frontier: Space. We spent the good part of a week in the deserts of New Mexico and California, photographing the spaces and places, the infrastructure, the people, and ultimately Sir Richard himself. We’ve shared part one and part two and now it’s finally time for the final piece of the story – the cover.

It’s not an exaggeration that ten minutes can go by in the blink of an eye. Months of concepting, weeks of planning and pre-production, and when it’s all said and done we’ve got ten minutes to make it happen. What can we do in ten minutes with one of the most iconic and charismatic public figures on the planet? What we always do – make photos. The second part of this series on the blog highlights our shoot in Mojave, California -  a few very intense minutes photographing the enterprising entrepreneur Richard Branson, followed by a day of shooting the key elements of the Virgin Galactic space program. We may have only had a few moments with Sir Richard, but we made the most out of it, resulting in a handful of feature images as well as in-depth coverage of his still very much in-progress space ships.
